WORKINN, ADDIT3D & THE OIL & GAS CONFERENCE now open

Three new events joined the BIEMH at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre this morning: WORKINN, ADDIT3D and the Oil & Gas Conference. At the official opening of WORKINN, the first employment and training fair aimed at young people, Teresa Laespada, Provincial Councillor in Charge of Employment, Social Inclusion and Equality, assured that it will be industrial employment will that typifies the economic recovery in a knowledge-based society that requires highly skilled workers.  “The difference between success and failure lies in having the tools needed to attain one’s goals”, she said, “so at the Provincial Council of Bizkaia our efforts are focused on creating the conditions and developing the measures required to foster employment.  Those conditions include events such as this one”. Ms. Laespada ended her address by announcing the approval this morning of a funding endowment of €2.8 million to support the under 30s, under the framework of the employability decree. For his part Xabier Ortueta, General Manager of the AFM, described WORKINN as “an idea that has been put into practice as a result of our commitment to training centres that we will keep staging successive editions of the BIEMH, and offer more and more content.  We have a responsibility to those centres, and to seeing that their students leave here with a desire to work in industry”.   In this first edition of WORKINN there are over 100 jobs on offer. Xabier Basañez, General Manager of the BEC stated that “the event’s best calling cards are these job offers and the presentations focused on major issues related to employability”.

At the official opening of ADDIT3D, Spain’s first trade fair for 3D and additive manufacturing, the Bilhbao Exhibition Centre and Addimat, as joint organisers, stressed the importance of this sector, which invoiced a global total of  $5.2 billion in 2015, has been growing steadily at more than 30% per annum since 2011 and is expected to treble its turnover in the next four years.  “All this places us in a context of opportunity, with a long road and great discoveries before us”, stressed BEC General Manager Xabier Basañez, who added that the event is expected to host highly valuable contacts from which new forms of cooperation will arise, also as regards technical seminars.   For his part ADDIMAT General Manager Xabier Ortueta recalled the success of the previous, pioneering initiative in 2014, when firms form this sector were grouped for the first time at the Machine-Tool Biennial, where the sector’s leading association was set up. That association now has 60 members.  “The sector offers many opportunities and people are anxious to learn more” asserted Mr. Ortueta.

The official opening of the Oil & Gas Conference was attended by Pilar Urruticoechea, General Manager of EVE (the Basque Energy Association), which is sponsoring the event, Mª José Navarro, General Manager of EasyFairs Iberia, the joint porganiser of the conference, and Xabier Basañez, General Manager of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre. In her address Ms. Urruticoechea stressed the need to encourage a technological renaissance for the energy sector in Europe, as it is a key sector for social and economic development and for the development of businesses.   “The main challenge lies in interpreting today’s world so as to tackle the problems posed and make the right decisions for the long term, with our sights always set on sustainability. To that end, forums such as this are highly useful opportunities”, she said.

Ms. Navarro of EasyFairs highlighted the importance of creating a community in the pumps & valves sector in Bilbao, so as to “fan the flame of the success of the Pumps & Valves Fair, which was first staged here in 2015, following on from previous editions in Rotterdam, Zurich and Antwerp”.  She went on to say “for us, Bilbao is a highly important location in our strategy of reaching out through industrial trade shows”.  For his part Xabier Basañez thanked the firms and organisations taking part – sponsors, members of the Committee of Experts, speakers and exhibitors – for placing their trust in the Oil & Gas Conference. They will be meeting today and tomorrow to analyse strategic trends and business opportunities, seeking to make the best use of the various venues provided by this forum.
