Through the AFM (association of Machine-Tool Manufacturers) and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the machine-tool and advanced manufacturing technology sectors have selected Ibarmia, Mizar Additive and DG Digital as the winners of the 2016 Innovation Awards. A special mention was also awarded to Zayer.
Imanol Pradales (Councillor Responsible for Economic Promotion at the Provincial Council of Bizkaia), Antxon Lopez Usoz (Chair of AFM), Andrés Zabara (Head of Promotion & Cooperation at CDTI) and Xabier Basañez (General Manager of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre) handed over the awards, which for the first time this year included two new categories: one for additive manufacturing and the other for the incorporation of 4.0 concepts into advanced manufacturing systems, supplementing the existing category of machine tools, components, tools and accessories.
The innovation award for machine tools, components, accessories and tools went to Ibarmia for its universal machining centre with moving table and column and forked head. The jury awarded points for the overall design of the machine, including formal aspects such as ergonomics and corporate identity.
The innovation award for 3-D or additive manufacturing went to Mizar Additive for its method for creating personalised bone repair plates fully adapted to the anatomy of each patient.
The innovation award for the integration of 4.0 concepts into advanced manufacturing systems went to DG Digital, an integrated 4.0 project concerned with connectivity at three different levels (machine, process and plant).
The jury also agreed to award a special mention to Zayer for its Arion machining centre, which incorporates 4.0 concepts.
Finally, the organisers of the Innovation Awards granted the AFM-SIF award for the best final year project in the machine-tool sector to Francisco Javier Llonin for his project “Graphite tool for EDM made with the application of Laminated Object Manufacturing”.
